Special Education
Providing extra supports to help students with special needs ages birth to 22 find success in school and beyond
Eden Prairie Schools offers a continuum of special education services to support students at all steps of their educational career. From early intervention to community-based vocational training, our goal is to give students the support they need to thrive while fostering their independence. In partnership with our families, we develop collaborative Individualized Education Plans that help each student reach their full potential.

How do we know your child could benefit from special education services?
Unlocking Potential
How we approach special education services
The following principles guide special education decision-making in Eden Prairie Schools:
- Families are essential partners in making educational decisions for students.
- Special education services are provided to students in a way that keeps them as close as possible to their typically-developing peers while meeting their educational needs. Students will access the rich curricular, instructional, and social opportunities of the general education system, while also accessing services to support their individual needs.
- Focusing on academic and social-emotional growth is an essential component for each student in our schools.
Support for your child at every step
Early Childhood Screening
The Early Childhood Screening is a free evaluation that helps identify any potential supports that may help your child be successful in school. Because this screening takes place before kindergarten, it allows for timely interventions that ensure each student can achieve optimal growth and success. During your child's screening, a skilled professional will assess various aspects vital to their wellbeing and development as they play fun learning games with your child.
Screening before kindergarten is an essential part of ensuring children are set up for success, and is required by the state of Minnesota. We recommend screening early, by age 3, so we can begin to support your child as early as possible.
Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE)
Our special education services for students younger than 5 include:
- Early Intervention Services for children birth through age 2;
- Comprehensive assessment of development for children ages birth through age 5;
- Direct and consultative services for children with special education needs, including possible services of ECSE teachers, speech and language therapy, and motor specialists;
- Family support and education regarding special services, community resources and child development.
Our goal is to support your child in some of the places they are most comfortable, such as home, childcare, or preschool. For more information about ECSE, please contact the Early Childhood Special Education office at 952-975-7252.
TASSEL Transition Program
The TASSEL ("Teaching All Students Skills for Employment & Life") Transition Program is designed for students with disabilities ages 18-22 who have significant needs in at least two of the three transition areas: post-secondary education & training, employment, and independent living skills. We welcome students from Eden Prairie and across the metro area to our beautiful building on Valley View Road!
Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEAC)
Want to have more involvement in our special education services?
