Azul Bolanos Portilla (12), Nia Colebrooke (12), Angela Lin (12), Mina Kim (9), Colleen Thompson (10), Lauren Unzen (11), and Amber Zillmer (11) are the app creators and were selected out of 1,800 app submissions for this award.
As a “Best in State” winner, the team has won a $5,000 award for Eden Prairie High School, a recognition plaque and banner, eligibility to compete for “Best in Region” and “Best in Nation”, as well as various other prizes.
The app challenge is part of Verizon Innovative Learning, a nationwide contest in which middle and high school students are challenged to develop concepts for mobile apps that solve a problem in their community. The contest aims to build around students’ enthusiasm toward technology and strengthen their skills to succeed in their future jobs.
