Congratulations to juniors Alexa Dobchuk and Isaac Nebeker who were named the Eden Prairie High School Excellence in Community, Education and Leadership (ExCEL) Award Nominees. ExCEL is a unique recognition program designed exclusively for Minnesota high school juniors who are active in school activities, who show leadership qualities and volunteer in their community.
Alexa is a member of the girls’ varsity hockey and lacrosse teams and is an active volunteer in youth hockey, participating in youth mentoring, hockey camps and goalie training. She also volunteers at Feed my Starving Children and is a peer tutor.
Alexa’s letter of recommendation states, “She has a confidence about her that draws other students to trust her and follow her example. She readily embraces this by helping others to prepare to be successful.”
Isaac is active in choir, the speech team and drama/theater. Isaac is a volunteer at his church and with Boy Scouts of America. He serves as a student judge for middle school speech tournaments and volunteers with the middle school music department mentoring students.
Isaac's letter of recommendation states, “He goes beyond simply being profoundly talented both as an actor and musician to add the ineffable qualities of humble leadership...In working with Ike over the course of three years, I have seen him develop his talent through hard work, clear goal-setting, and connections with others.”
The ExCEL Award recipients will be selected by an independent panel of judges from schools throughout Minnesota. Award winners will be announced via the Minnesota High School League website on February 6, 2017. Each recipient will be recognized on KSTC-TV (Channel 45) during the broadcasts of the 2017 winter tournaments.
