EP Online: Online Learning

EP Online is a comprehensive K-12 virtual school offering a wide variety of online courses designed to maximize flexibility and personalized learning. In grades 6-12, a block schedule is used, allowing students to focus on a few courses at a time for deeper learning. Secondary students can enroll full-time (4 courses per term) or part-time (1-2 courses per term), with most courses spanning two terms (half a school year). Students typically spend about 90 minutes per course daily, engaging in both synchronous and asynchronous learning.

At the high school level, full-time students must take 4 classes per term in grades 9-10 and 3 classes per term in grades 11-12. To graduate, students need 54 credits, including required courses. Many classes offer Honors options for additional enrichment, and EP Online provides over a dozen Advanced Placement (AP) courses, which can fulfill graduation requirements. Upperclassmen may also participate in Minnesota’s PSEO program to earn college credits tuition-free while still in high school.

• Synchronous courses hold “live” class sessions on Zoom during a scheduled period within the school day; students interact with their teacher and peers in real-time every day.
• Asynchronous courses feature “independent” coursework on Schoology that is completed by students at self-determined and self-paced times throughout the week; students do not typically collaborate with other students in these courses and primarily communicate with their teachers through email.

EP Online is committed to providing personalized support tailored to the unique needs of all students, including those with varying abilities. Our services are designed to help every student access learning opportunities that address their academic, social, and emotional needs in both general and special education settings. From early childhood through graduation, students receive a high-quality, individualized education program in the least restrictive environment possible.

Our dedicated EP Online special education team works closely with general education teachers, as well as school and district administration, to ensure students with disabilities are supported and thriving in their educational experiences online.

EP Online students in grades 6 through 12 have access to a school counselor who has a Master's Degree in school counseling and is licensed by the State of Minnesota. Our school counselors are available for individual appointments, group guidance activities, spontaneous meetings, or connections over email or phone. Our counselors offer support to examine each student's personal, social, career and/or academic issues. They also help students to clarify their feelings, thoughts and behaviors, explore alternatives, and make good decisions.

Our counselors are happy to meet with staff, students, and families for questions regarding schedules, credits and transcripts, college and career, mental health concerns, and academic concerns!

The goals of the counseling department are:

• To provide respectful, meaningful services for each student
• To provide safe, confidential support to each student
• To help each student understand and appreciate their uniqueness
• To help each student enhance skills to promote positive change
• To have each senior develop a future plan and graduate 

In EP Online Summer SOAR, high school students from across the state of Minnesota can make room in their regular school year schedules by completing graduation requirements online during the summer. Students can asynchronously access (via Schoology) an assortment of readings, videos, assignments and other digital learning opportunities at their own pace throughout the summer while they receive feedback and drop-in support from a highly-qualified Eden Prairie Schools online teacher.

Courses run from June 16 to August 8. Registration closed on May 31.
