Dear Eden Prairie Schools Families,
This is an update about Eden Prairie Schools’ planning around COVID-19 or coronavirus. Our single focus is protecting our students, staff and families. Your students are our inspiration, and every employee is committed to keeping them safe. We are in continual contact with the Minnesota Department of Health and the Minnesota Department of Education. As of the time of this message, the direction is that we continue school routines and follow the precautions we use during cold and flu season. We know it’s possible that our circumstances may change. We want to ensure effective communication, so please review and update your contact information in Infinite Campus. In your email system, make sure that firstname.lastname@example.org and email@example.com are allowed/whitelisted.
We have created a dedicated webpage with information about our COVID-19 plan and we encourage you to review it. While we have no known cases of COVID-19 as of today in Eden Prairie, I want you to know that we have been taking proactive measures to prevent the spread of illness. Our custodians have changed routines to clean high-touch surfaces more often throughout the day. Students are given more time for washing with soap and water. Our school nurses are in daily communication with public health departments. We have updated our inventory of necessary supplies. District administrators are meeting frequently as we monitor the situation and review our plans.
In the event that schools need to close for an extended period of time, we have an e-learning plan for grades 7-12 that has been in place since the start of the school year. Our e-learning plan for elementary students is being finalized. When it’s ready, it will be available through our COVID-19 plan webpage and announced in the Parent Post e-newsletter.
You have probably heard it many times already, but our best protection is to follow the same practices that we talk about during every cold and flu season:
- Wash hands with warm water and soap.
- Cover your cough: Cough into your sleeve or elbow and not your hands.
- Stay home if you or your family have symptoms of illness. Schools have attendance lines to report absences.
- Avoid touching your face, especially your nose, eyes and mouth.
- Do not share water bottles, cups/glasses, food, lip balm, etc.
You can find more information from the Minnesota Department of Health or contact MDH at its COVID-19 hotline, 651-201-3920. I will continue to share updates directly with you. Thank you for being a part of Eden Prairie Schools.
