National Principals Month: Joel Knorr

National Principals Month: Joel Knorr

Please join us in recognizing Joel Knorr, Principal of Oak Point Elementary, for National Principals Month. We asked Joel a few questions about his motivations as an educator and leader. Here are his responses:

Why did you choose education?

School was always important to my family.  As a child, school was where I established friendships and where I learned the value of having an inspirational teacher.  When I began college, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do for a career.  I appreciated how fortunate I was to be in college because that was something my parents were not able to do.  I knew I loved working with kids and after taking a few courses in the teacher preparation program it confirmed that I would be very happy working in a career where I could “inspire” kids like so many educators had inspired me.

What gets you out of bed in the morning?

After teaching 3rd grade and 6th grade at the beginning of my career, I have been a Principal for 21 years, the last 8 years at Oak Point Elementary.  No two days are the same and I love that about my job.  Being part of a school community with amazing kids and talented and dedicated staff makes it easy to get out of bed each morning. I love our Oak Point “family” and am so grateful to work in Eden Prairie Schools.
