Eden Prairie: Eden Prairie School District residents voted 69.5% yes (3155 votes) to 30.5% no (1382 votes) to support the district’s request to improve school learning environments and enhance school safety through construction projects at all schools.
Voters approved a request for a $39.9 million bond that will be used to:
- Improve safety and security across all schools.
- Support greater academic achievement by redesigning classrooms districtwide to support more flexible learning environments and personalized learning.
- Ensure more children are prepared for kindergarten by moving four-year old preschool programs into the elementary schools and expanding preschool capacity.
- Improve middle school experience by providing a cohesive three-year experience tailored to 6th-8th graders academic and developmental need.
“We are so grateful to our community for supporting this request,” said Superintendent Josh Swanson. “With this funding we can provide the learning environments our students need and deserve.”
The bond referendum proposal came from three years of study that involved Eden Prairie residents, teachers, staff and students. The proposal responded to what the community said it wanted for students in Eden Prairie Schools. School security improvements and redesigning classroom work will begin as soon as possible, once construction schedules are finalized. Welcoming preschoolers to all elementary schools and moving 6th graders to the middle school will take place in fall 2021. The tax impact for the average homeowner ($397,400 home value) will be about $6.50 a month.
