2020: 1st Day of School is Aug. 31

Earlier this summer, the School Board approved the start and end dates, and winter and spring breaks for the 2020-21 school year. The preliminary calendar is being shared now in order to help Eden Prairie Schools families as they plan ahead. District staff are developing the remaining calendar dates, which include conference days, professional development days, etc. Later this school year, the final 2020-21 calendar will be reviewed by the School Board for its approval.

School will start Aug. 31 in the fall of 2020, which is before Labor Day. Winter break will be Dec. 24, 2020-Jan. 1, 2021; and spring break is March 29, 2021-April 2. The school year will end May 28, 2021. State law requires public schools to start after Labor Day, but an exception is allowed when there is construction.

Central Middle School will be under construction this coming summer and next summer. Improvements include a new classroom wing for 6th grade students, a performing arts center, a small gym addition, and updates to classrooms throughout the school. All of this is possible due to the referendum approved by voters in May. Having access to CMS during all of June 2021, with no students and staff in the building, will help ensure major construction is complete and the school is ready for 6th-8th grade students that fall. A complete and final calendar will be announced in this newsletter in the first months of 2020.
