Why Spanish Immersion?
Language is at the heart of the human experience.
Learning other languages and understanding the culture of the people who speak them is a 21st-century skill that is vital to success in the global environment in which we live. Our school combines the excellence of an academically award-winning school district with the opportunity to learn in Spanish beginning in kindergarten. Together with our strong parent community, we lead our students to take ownership of their learning while exploring their interests and finding new passions in a supportive learning environment.
“Our family has had a great experience at Eagle Heights. Students learn the Spanish language and engage with other cultures in a meaningful way — all while learning the content and meeting the standards required for elementary school academics. Our children are happy to go to school everyday. We were amazed by how quickly our kindergarteners picked up the language, were able to respond to instructions in Spanish and came home singing Spanish songs. When our oldest started middle school last fall she was bilingual, more culturally aware and well prepared for the academic rigor demanded of students in middle school.”

Academic Success
In Eden Prairie Schools, we believe each learner has unique talents and gifts. Through personalized learning, teachers work to understand, care and nurture student strengths, while students are encouraged to take ownership of their learning and explore their interests and passions.
We apply the same standards, outcomes, curriculum and assessments as the district’s other elementary schools, with the exception that all of our core subjects are taught in Spanish. Beginning in third grade, students experience a dual literacy program with language arts instruction in both English and Spanish. By middle school, our students can read, write and speak both languages, resulting in well-educated students who are not only bilingual but also biliterate.
Here are some highlights:
- Our test scores are consistently above the state average.
- Our teachers are loved by our parent community, with a 97% approval rating among parents districtwide.
- Our teaching practices emphasize the 4Cs: creativity, collaboration, critical thinking and communication. These are the skills essential for both career and citizenship.
- Students engage in musical education each week (orchestra, choir and band). Eden Prairie Schools is one of few districts to offer orchestra at the elementary level.
- We offer the KEY program for students in second through sixth grade who benefit from gifted and talented programming. KEY students engage in activities utilizing problem solving, higher level thinking skills and advanced topics.
As students progress to middle and high school, our district offers multiple courses and opportunities to continue to grow their Spanish education experience.
Seguro. Amable. Responsable.
The Core Values of our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports system (PBIS) focus on three character pillars – "Seguro, Amable, Responsable," which means “Safe, Kind, Responsible.” All students work together with their classroom teachers and staff to embed these traits into our everyday learning at Eagle Heights. The PBIS Program and the Responsive Classroom Program work hand in hand to develop our students into outstanding community members.
Students engage in calming strategies throughout the day to help reduce stress, improve attention and promote overall student wellness.

Parent Involvement
Eagle Heights and the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) work collaboratively to enhance the educational environment for students. The PTO sponsors events throughout the year to provide enrichment opportunities in the 4Cs (communication, collaboration, creativity, critical thinking) for all students.
In addition, the PTO supports our STEM Education Night, Maratón de Lectura (Read-a-thon), and various classroom activities throughout the year. We encourage our families to be involved in the Eagle Heights community!
International Intern Program
All of our students benefit from our special International Intern Program, which supports as many as 16 full-year interns who interact with immersion students. The teaching interns are all from Spanish-speaking countries and volunteer to share their language and culture with students while assisting in the classroom.
The program is supported by the Spanish Education Fund (SEF), a parent-led nonprofit that works in parallel to the PTO.
Co-Curricular Activities
Specials
In addition to core academics, our elementary students explore their interests and discover new passions through a rich variety of Specials. From creative expression to physical activity and global learning, these experiences help students grow in meaningful ways. Here's a look at what your child can look forward to every 21-day rotation.
Art specialists meet with all the students on a 21 day rotation for 45 minute art lessons. The purpose of the art program is to connect each child to the exciting world of art and one's own place in the artistic process. The art curriculum is aligned with the district art curriculum and the state art standards. If you would like more information about the art program at our elementary schools, please contact your child's art specialist.
The beginning band program consists of a lesson program and concert band experience for 5th grade students in their first year of playing a band instrument. Now is the best time for students to start learning an instrument as there is no beginning band program at CMS or EPHS. Students will get to select their instrument, learn basic music fundamentals, and perform at three concerts during the year.
Instruction is offered on the following instruments:
Flute - Oboe - Clarinet - Alto Saxophone - Trumpet - French Horn - Trombone - Baritone - Tuba - Percussion
- Each student will receive a 22 minute small group lesson and a 45 minute large group rehearsal once per week during the school day. Students will rotate through a lesson schedule so they will not miss the same class every week. Small group lessons will begin in October. Large group band rehearsals begin at the end of November.
- There is a cost incurred by each student’s family to obtain an instrument. This is explained in more detail in the Instrumental Music Handbook. Most importantly, no student will be denied the opportunity to participate in the Eden Prairie instrumental music program due to financial constraints. Scholarships are available.
- Fifth graders will be attending a short instrument demonstration concert in September where they will get to see and hear all of the different instruments. Students will come home with an Instrumental Music Handbook describing the registration process. ALL students must return the registration form (the last page of the Instrumental Music Handbook) by the date specified. They will then be scheduled for a 10 minute instrument interview to try out their instruments which will be scheduled toward the end of September.
Students receive classroom music with a music specialist. The music specialist meets with all the students on a 21-day rotation for 45-minute music lessons. Music is an integral part of a comprehensive education. We believe that music integrates understanding from multiple disciplines and leads to an improved self-concept, broader cultural awareness, and a development of life-long skills. We look forward to working with you and your child(ren).
The beginning orchestra program consists of a lesson program and large ensemble experience. Students have the option to participate in orchestra in fifth grade in our elementary schools. Now is the best time for students to start learning an instrument as there is no beginning orchestra program at CMS.
In the Elementary Beginning Orchestra, students will develop correct playing posture, will learn the fundamentals of playing music, and how to read music. Elementary orchestra provides students with a solid musical foundation to enter higher level orchestra offerings at Central Middle School and Eden Prairie High School.
Instruction is offered on the following instruments:
Violin – Viola – Cello - Bass
Students in orchestra will participate in a 22-minute group lesson (5-7 students) once a week during the school day. Students will rotate through a lesson schedule so they will not miss the same class every week. In addition, students will participate in a 45-minute large group ensemble once a week during the school day beginning in November. Students will participate in 3-4 concerts during the school year.
Physical education is an essential part of the educational process. It is a key place where students learn the values of teamwork, cooperation, and respect for the diversity of others.
Eden Prairie’s developmentally-based physical education program emphasizes skill building, positive attitudes, and creative expression. The goal of the program is to promote active, healthy lifestyles and positive self esteem.
All students have physical education class. They meet with the physical education specialist on a 21 day rotation for 45 minute physical education lessons.
Each child will have Spanish instructions at all our elementary schools except at Eagle Height Spanish Immersion. At EHSI, each student will have English instructions. The specialist teacher will meet with all the students on a 21-day rotation for 45-minute lessons. Students will participate in a variety of activities including games, songs, cultural presentations, art and technology projects, dancing, and even some storytelling.
The curriculum is organized around content areas. Most content areas are repeated at each grade level to allow for review and amplification of the vocabulary as well to promote the sequential development of the four components of language learning: reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

Kindergarten Enrollment Lottery
If we receive more applications for kindergarten at Eagle Heights than the available seats in the kindergarten class, Eden Prairie Schools runs a kindergarten enrollment lottery. A child's application must be submitted, and all forms received, by January 31 of each year at 4:00 p.m. for them to be included in the kindergarten enrollment lottery. The lottery is run in February, and lottery results are communicated to families by March 1.

Please contact the Welcome Center at 952-975-7008 or enroll@edenpr.org between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. We will be happy to share more information about the lottery process or give your child’s updated waitlist number.
We’re glad you’re interested in Eagle Heights! Please call the Welcome Center at 952-975-7008 to learn more about enrollment.
Yes; families are always welcome to submit applications for Eagle Heights after the lottery deadline has passed. Students will be added to the waitlist and their family will be notified if a spot becomes available in the child’s grade.
The number of students who are admitted from the waitlist varies each year based on movement among families included in the lottery. Since we cannot anticipate changes our families might make to their child’s enrollment plans, we cannot estimate a child’s chances of being accepted from the waitlist.
If your child is on the waitlist for Eagle Heights, you are invited to enroll them in one of the other wonderful Eden Prairie Schools elementary schools!
The lottery results email will include a due date, and your confirmation form must be received at the Welcome Center by the due date.
Instructions: Customized post popup (THIS DOES NOT SHOW ON THE LIVE PAGE)
To use a customized post popup that does not use Composers native post popup functionality, follow the steps below. This is to be used with a Post element.
- Set the post element to not open in a popup in the "Link To" settings.
- All fields except title, thumbnail, and read more are hidden by default on the page.
- Add the "customized-popup" custom class to the grid, list or slider Post element.
- There are custom classes to show every field in the post element by default. As mentioned in #2, they are all hidden by default on the page, except for the title, thumbnail, and read more, but below are a list of custom classes you can utilize if you want a particular field to show on the page. These custom classes are to be put on the Post element. The names are self explanatory and are named after the available fields in the "Content Details" area of the Post element settings. THESE CLASSES WILL MAKE THE RELEVANT FIELDS SHOW ON THE PAGE.

- page-show-categories
- page-show-body
- page-show-updateddate

- page-show-expireddate
- page-show-expiredtime

- page-show-publishtime
- page-show-author

- Similarly, there are a set of custom classes available which will allow you to hide information in the popup. THESE CLASSES WILL MAKE THE RELEVANT FIELDS HIDE IN THE POPUP.

- popup-hide-sharingbuttons
- popup-hide-thumbnail
- There is one custom class available to hide the thumbnail on the actual page (this won't affect the popup).
- page-hide-thumbnail
- Ideally, never turn on the "Link titles to post details" setting in the "Content Details" area of the Post element settings. That generates the anchors which was causing duplicates in the search results. However, on page load, they are being removed anyway. Better safe than sorry!
- Whatever details are checked in the "Content Details" area, that's what will show up in the popup (unless you hide them via the custom classes that are provided), except for the read more link. Logically, there's nothing to read more at that point, and also mimics how the native Composer Post popup works. This means by extension, the "Popup Details" area in the Post element settings is now disabled.
