What to Expect

An Early Childhood Screening is a free evaluation that helps identify supports that will help your child be as successful as possible in school. It's designed to be fun for your child, and they will play games and interact with our friendly staff while you wait outside. During your child's screening, a skilled professional will assess various aspects of their well-being and development, which include:

• Vision and hearing
• Height and weight
• Immunizations or exemptions
• Large and small muscles/motor skills
• Thinking, language and communication skills
• Social and emotional development

Thanks to our friends at the Eden Prairie Community Foundation, each child receives a free book after their Early Childhood Screening! Once the screening is complete, you will also receive a screening summary, which will be submitted to your child's school before they begin kindergarten.

Screen early, ensure success

Though state law requires that a screening be completed before your student enters kindergarten, we recommend you complete one by the time your child turns three. Screening early helps us identify areas for growth far before kindergarten, so we can work together to be sure your child is ready to enter school!
