New Registration Process for Student ActivitiesCentral Middle School Student Activities is excited to announce that we are transitioning to online registration for the majority of our activities below. This new procedure will be different for many of you but in the long run will streamline our procedures and make it easier to meet the needs for everyone involved.

Art Club (new club each quarter): $20 4TH QUARTER ART CLUB STARTS APRIL 16 IN ROOM 601Art Club meets after school and is open to all 7th and 8th grade students. A variety of activities may include manga art, ceramics, sculpture, jewelry design, and print making. The 2nd quarter art club will start on November 13. It will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school in room 601 from Nov.13 - Dec 13. We have to limit the number of students to 25 this session. Online registration is now open.
Central Singers (September-May): $20
If you enjoy singing and would like to further develop your skills and confidence in singing, then Central Singers is for you. There is a 7th grade girls choir, a 8th grade girls choir and a boys choir. We perform in two concerts and special events during the school year. You need not be enrolled in a CMS choir to participate in this group. Days/Time: 7th grade girls choir meets Thursday mornings before school and 8th grade girls meet Thursday mornings. Boys will meet Tuesday morning before school in the choir room. Starting the week of September 24th. Online registration is now open.
Craft Club (November 27 - December 20): $25
If you enjoy making crafts such as holiday gifts or tie dying t-shirts, you'll love this club. Days/Times: Tuesday/Thursday after school. Online registration is now open.
Drama Club (Fall Quarter): $20 (plus field trips)
Drama Club offers 7th and 8th grade students an avenue for personal expression through the theater arts. Vocal exercises, improvisation, games and skits are all a part of the fun. Attention is also given to the areas of theater participation such as set design and construction, costumes, lights, and sound. Great preparation for the CMS winter play, musical, and variety show. Sign-up opportunities are publicized through the daily school bulletin. A field trip to a theatre is usually planned. Days/Times: 7th grade will meet Tuesdays after school starting September 18th and 8th grade will meet on Thursdays after school starting September 13. Online registration is now open.
Instrumental Ensembles (September-May): $20 for each ensemble
If you are in band or play a string instrument, ensembles provide a way to further your skills by playing different music from what we play in band. Ensembles offer an opportunity to have fun playing in a smaller group. Both 7th and 8th grade students are encouraged to participate. There are one or two concerts during the year, and occasional performances at special events. Ensembles include jazz band, percussion ensemble, pep band, woodwind, brass, string, cello and orchestra ensembles. Ensembles will start the week of September 17th. Your band instructors will have more information in your band classes. Days/Time: Before school once a week. Online registration is now open.CMS puts on a musical each year. Sign-up opportunities are publicized through the daily bulletin. Though the size of the cast differs from show to show, opportunities are available for both 7th and 8th grade students in singing roles, non-singing roles, crews for lights and sound, set construction, painting, costumes, make-up, and publicity. Opportunities also exist for 8th grade instrumental students to be in the pit orchestra. The cast and orchestra are selected through auditions. Performances are held in the evening for parents and friends on May 7, 9, 10 and 11. Students selected to participate are expected to attend all scheduled rehearsals and performances.Days/Time: Rehearsals start in late February, including some Saturdays.
Photography Club ( Winter ): $20
Photography Club is open to all 7th and 8th grade students. You will learn about camera basics, shutter, aperture and ISO and taking action and nature shots. Days/Time: TBA after school. Winter photography club is start after winter break. The date has not be determined yet. This club is limited to 20 students.
Variety Show (February 16)
The annual variety show is presented by CMS as a showcase for its multi-talented students. Acts are selected by auditions in an effort to involve as many and as varied a selection as possible. Acts have included dance, gymnastics, singing, live music, skits, mime, etc. Dress rehearsal is February 15 @ 5pm. The performance will be February 16, 2018 at 7pm @ the PAC.
Winter Play (November-January): $20 (plus a costume fee for cast)
All 7th and 8th grade students are welcome to participate. Auditions will be November 26, 27 and 29th. Sign-up for a time outside of the student activities office. The performances will be February 8, 9 and 10th. No dramatic experience is necessary. Students are needed for cast and “behind the scene crews”. Students selected to participate are expected to attend all scheduled rehearsals and performances. Days/Times: rehearsals are generally held after school and on some Saturdays.
Woodcrafting Club (A new section each quarter): $25
8th grade students who are interested in continuing their industrial technology knowledge by making cool games and other woodworking projects will enjoy this club. Two days a week after school for four weeks.
The yearbook staff is a group of very dedicated, creative 7th & 8th graders who meet with an advisor one day a week from early October through April. Staff members develop the yearbook’s theme, design page layouts, take and edit photos, write about student activities, and check completed pages for accuracy. Students are chosen for the yearbook by turning in a completed application with parent and teachers’ signatures in mid-September.
