Welcome to Eagle HeightsAt Eagle Heights Spanish Immersion, we have adopted the phrase "Another Way to Learn". We value the many different approaches to achieving our district goal of preparing our students for success in a diverse and changing world. At our school, teachers and support staff are bilingual in Spanish and English, and are knowledgeable in language immersion philosophy and methodology. We are dedicated to using the strategies that research has proven to be most effective in achieving bilingualism, while also meeting state and national learning standards. As Eden Prairie Schools’ language immersion option, we combine the excellence of an academically award-winning school district with the opportunity to learn in Spanish beginning in kindergarten through 6th grade. The same EPS standards, outcomes, curriculum and assessments applied at the district’s other elementary schools are the basis for an Eagle Heights education. In grades K-6, all core subjects are taught, and all interactions between students and teachers are done in Spanish. Beginning in grade 3, students experience a dual literacy program; with language arts instruction in both English and Spanish, resulting in students who can learn, read, write, and speak in both languages by the time they enter middle school.
We share facilities with Oak Point Elementary school, a configuration that provides many opportunities for educational community building and partnerships. We use the same wonderful library and media center, lunch room, playground, gyms and Performing Arts Lab (PAL). Our diverse teaching staff is enthusiastic and creative in their approach to bilingual education. Support staff helps provide guidance and academic opportunities for every child. When our students move on to Central Middle School, they will find options for continuing the immersion model in several courses.
Since its inception, Eagle Heights has had a vibrant and dedicated group of families who support our students and staff and have been an integral component of the success of our school. Our parents and school community have been responsible for the fundraising and volunteerism that makes our International Intern Program a reality. EHSI International Interns come from Spanish speaking countries around the world; Colombia, Spain, Mexico, Chile, and Peru to name a few. At EHSI we are proud of the opportunities we provide for our students and families to experience a broader world view through their relationships with these young ambassadors who work with our students and staff every day, sharing their culture and their language.
We care deeply about how our students view themselves among others in a world that continues to expand via technology, and ever-changing demographics. We believe that language is the portal to any culture, and we hope that by offering families the option of a bilingual education within the Eden Prairie Public Schools we will expand our collective world view and increase access to multiple world cultures for all of our students.
We welcome you to Eagle Heights and the exciting days ahead!
