Volunteer Spotlight on Jan Schmidt

Volunteer Spotlight on Jan Schmidt!

For Volunteer Appreciation Week, we’ll be spotlighting volunteers across the district who have gone above and beyond for our Eden Prairie Schools community. Nancy Merickel nominated Jan Schmidt, to recognize the time and heart she shares with the Forest Hills Elementary School Library. Jan volunteers 9 hours every week at the library, and helps keep it ready for all students.

“Jan is the best library volunteer you could ever ask for, she has volunteered for a number of years and couldn't wait to return to support our students and staff! I would be lost without her! Jan goes so far as to plan her vacations and retirement activities around her volunteer schedule! She loves being here as much as we love having her here! We are incredibly fortunate that she is part of our Forest Hills community – Nancy Merickel

“On our library day, the kindergarteners are met with a huge wave and a simile from Jan as she arrives while they are headed out to recess. They are SO delighted to see her in the media center for checkout and share their newest book choices with her. Jan goes above and beyond any volunteer FH has ever had :-) “ – Allen Lundberg

“Jan feels more like a member of the staff than a volunteer. She knows our staff and our students by name. She greets everyone with a smile and you can tell she truly enjoys being here. She takes ownership of the library and takes pride in making sure the books are put away and accessible to the future borrowers. I look forward to seeing her each Tuesday and Wednesday and it is a bonus when I run into her in our community.” – Kristin Cayo

Thank you, Jan! We appreciate you!

Jan loves giving back to the community by helping in the school her sons attended. Interested in sharing your skills to help students? Check out available volunteer opportunities at www.edenpr.org/volunteer.
