Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Eden Prairie Community Education! We are very passionate about having incredible volunteers working within our schools and classrooms to enhance student learning and help us accomplish our mission and district strategies. We warmly welcome you to join our incredible volunteer team!
Those interested in volunteering will be asked to complete the following process:
VIEW ROLES: We have a variety of fun volunteer roles explore our currently available openings to gain a better understanding of existing needs and opportunities.
COMPLETE APPLICATION: Applying is a breeze! Interested applicants can complete an application through our online application form.
BACKGROUND CHECK: Maintaining a safe environment for both our students and our volunteers is top priority for us, so we do require all volunteers have a background check through our HR department. The background check comes in the form of an email from Trusted Employees. The background check is valid for as long as you remain an active volunteer. The cost is $21, which must be paid online at the time you submit your background check. We do have the option to reimburse you for the cost, if needed. Please let us know in your application if you require financial assistance.
INTERVIEW & ORIENTATION: We want to make sure each volunteer is placed in a role that matches their interests and availability. In order to do so, we do interview prospective volunteers to learn more about your goals, passions, and expertise. This brief meeting also serves as a chance to discuss your schedule, preferred roles and locations, and any questions you may have. We also want to make sure each volunteer feels comfortable and informed before starting your service. For this reason, we also review relevant district policies and expectations related to the position.
BUILDING TOUR & HOST INTRODUCTIONS: A Community Education staff member will provide a brief tour of the school building you are assigned, highlighting important locations. You will also be introduced to key building contacts and your host staff member, who will provide more detailed onsite direction.
ONGOING SUPPORT: Volunteers receive ongoing support such as access to training opportunities and additional tips to help you be successful in your role. Volunteer Program staff members can also help you navigate challenges, answer questions, and serve as a liaison between you and your host.
Request a Volunteer for Your Classroom
This district-wide program coordinated by Community Education aims to connect community members to a quality, meaningful volunteer experience within Eden Prairie Schools while providing additional individual and small group support in the classroom. We invite teachers and other staff to request a volunteer based on their specific needs and desired volunteer schedule.
The Community Education staff recruits and assigns volunteers based on interests, skills, and availability. They also coordinate background checks, provide orientation (including review of important policies and procedures around confidentiality, mandated reporting, appropriate volunteer behavior, etc.), and building tours. The Volunteer Program staff also provides ongoing support and training opportunities to the volunteers and serves as a liaison between the staff host and the volunteer. All placements are approved by principals. This overview document provides more details on the process.
If you are interested in hosting a volunteer, please submit the brief request form linked below. You are welcome to complete the survey at any time during the school year. Volunteers are placed on a first come, first served basis.
Become a Sharing Inspiration Guest Speaker
We believe EACH person has individual gifts, interests and talents. We seek to provide opportunities for community members to share theirs with our students. Eden Prairie Schools Community Education is passionate about incorporating volunteers into our classrooms and programs, including guest speakers. Teachers from across the district invite experts on specific topics into classrooms to share inspiration with students. Guest speakers with a variety of backgrounds and life experiences enhance student learning by sharing their knowledge and stories, helping students draw connections between curriculum and the real world.
If you are knowledgeable about a particular topic and have a desire to present to students, we invite you to complete a Sharing Inspiration Guest Speaker Profile. Profiles are shared with district staff, and should there be a matching request from a teacher, you will be invited to share your passion and expertise with students.
