Those interested in volunteering will be asked to complete the following process:
VIEW ROLES: We have a variety of fun volunteer roles available that are able to fit almost any commitment level. We encourage all prospective volunteers to explore our available positions and locations to find a role that is perfect for them.
COMPLETE APPLICATION: Applying is a breeze! Interested applicants can complete an application through our online application form.
BACKGROUND CHECK: Maintaining a safe environment for both our students and our volunteers is top priority for us, so we do require all volunteers have a background check through our HR department. The background check comes in the form of an email from Trusted Employees. The background check is valid for as long as you remain an active volunteer.
There is a cost associated with that ($21), which can be paid online. We do have the option to cover that cost if needed. Please let us know if you would like for us to cover that cost for you.
INTERVIEW: We want to make sure that each volunteer is placed in a role that matches their interests and availability. In order to do so, we do interviews over the phone or in person learn more about your goals for your volunteer experience. This brief interview serves as a chance to discuss your schedule, preferred roles, and answer any questions you may have.
ORIENTATION: We want to make sure that each volunteer feels comfortable and informed before starting their volunteer role. For this reason, we have a volunteer orientation that has three main components.
- Position and Policies Introduction – Before starting in the classroom, volunteers will meet with a member of volunteer program staff to discuss relevant district policies and expectations related to the position.
- Building Tour – The volunteer and a member of the volunteer program staff will go on a brief tour of the school building, highlighting important locations.
- Volunteer Introduction – In an effort to ease volunteers into their roles, they meet with their assigned classroom teacher and a member of the volunteer program staff to provide introductions, discuss the volunteer's new role, and go over a few reminders. These meetings typically occur during times when no students are in the room.
EPIC aims to connect students to learning outside of the classroom in a variety of innovative ways. Whether challenging your mind in strategic scenarios or using math and science skills to create something unique, we offer programs that will ignite interest and challenge your student in a fun, safe, and supportive atmosphere. Hundreds of camps are available each week in topics such as STEM, sports, art, drama, reading and languages. EPIC serves students ages 4+.
Summer EPIC camps take place at Oak Point Elementary and Eagle Heights Spanish Immersion at 13400 Staring Lake Pkwy, Eden Prairie, MN 55347. The program takes place for eight weeks over the summer from June 17 - August 15 (no camps the week of July 1). We ask that volunteers commit to working at least one full week (Monday - Thursday). Preference will be given to individuals who can volunteer for two weeks. Due to a high interest in volunteering, we ask volunteers to sign up for either a morning or afternoon session, not a full day. Full-day may be available depending on need.

Request a Volunteer for Your Classroom
The volunteer program aims to connect community members to a quality, meaningful volunteer experience within Eden Prairie Schools while providing individual and small group support in the classroom. We invite classroom teachers to request a volunteer based on their specific needs and desired volunteer schedule.
Community Education staff recruit volunteers; complete background checks; provide orientation, training, and building tours; and assign volunteers to classrooms based on interests, skills, and availability. All placements will be approved by school principals. Here are more details regarding how the program works for your reference.

Community Education will compile this data and work with school principals to place volunteers based on the information you provide. You are welcome to complete the survey at any time during the school year. Volunteers are placed on a first come, first served basis.
