Please join us in recognizing Stephanie Baker, Associate Principal of Oak Point Elementary, for National Associate Principals Month. We asked Stephanie a few questions about her motivations as an educator and leader. Here are her responses:

Why did you choose education?

I chose education because I wanted to make a difference in the lives of children. My mom was a teacher and I always loved working with children whether it was through babysitting, being a camp counselor, or pretending I was a teacher with the neighborhood kids. Growing up in a predominately white community, I didn’t see teachers who looked like me and so it became a mission of mine to enter into education so that students, both Asian and non-Asian, could see me as a mentor and teacher in their lives.

What gets you out of bed in the morning?

I love seeing the smiles on students' faces and the light in their eyes when they learn something new.  One of my favorite times of the day is when the buses pull into our parking lot and the students converge onto sidewalk at the same time. A “Good morning, Mrs. Baker” and a smile and wave just makes my day!

Additionally, working alongside an amazing staff also gets me out of bed each day because I truly live by our Eden Prairie Schools core value that “each person has intrinsic value.”  Everybody at our school has a purpose and contributes to the success of our students so it’s so empowering to be able to see that magic happen each and every day.

Stay tuned for more stories about our wonderful associate principals!
