Early July Hybrid Learning Survey Results Inform Eden Prairie Schools’ Planning Efforts

In early July, Eden Prairie Schools surveyed parents to gather input on preferences for a hybrid learning environment, should the state direct us to begin the 2020-21 school year using that approach. Although we do not yet know how the state will direct all Minnesota schools to proceed -- the possibilities are in person, all distance or hybrid (some distance and some in person) -- input from parents on how to structure a hybrid learning option was critical to our planning efforts.

In addition to this survey, feedback from parents around distance learning this spring and summer is being used in planning as staff work to be prepared for this fall. A group of 75 teachers, staff and parents have been meeting for the past few months to review and refine plans to inspire each student every day, no matter the format.

More than 5,000 parents responded to the survey with representation from all schools. Results of the hybrid learning survey are shown below.

Hybrid option 1A (16.2%): Half of K-12 students (Group A) will learn in person on Monday & Tuesday. Wednesday would be a Distance Learning day for all K-12 students. The other half of K-12 students (Group B) will learn in person on Thursday & Friday. When students are not learning in person, they will have distance learning assignments.

Hybrid option 1B (37.8%): Half of K-12 students (Group A) will learn in person on Monday & Tuesday. The other half of K-12 students (Group B) will learn in person on Wednesday & Thursday. Friday would be a Distance Learning day for all K-12 students. When students are not learning in person, they will have distance learning assignments.

Hybrid option 2 (46.1%): Half of K-12 students will alternate learning in person for an additional day (Wednesday). As a result, students will learn in person 2 or 3 days a week depending on the group (A or B) to which they are assigned. When students are not learning in person, they will have distance learning assignments.

Results from the second hybrid learning survey will be shared after the data is compiled.
