Board Votes to Schedule November 5 Referendum Election

At its August 19 meeting, the Eden Prairie School Board voted unanimously to schedule a referendum election for Tuesday, November 5, and to include an operating levy increase and a technology/capital projects renewal on the ballot.

The two questions on the November 5 ballot will be:

  • Question #1 – Revoke the existing operating levy of $1,306 per pupil unit and replace it with a levy for $2,269 per pupil unit each for the next 10 years beginning with the 2014-2015 school year
  • Question #2 – Renew the existing technology/capital projects levy at a 6.52845 percent tax rate for the next 10 years beginning with the 2015-2016 school year

Referendum Ballot Questions: What Does this Mean?

The language used in the operating levy and technology/capital projects levy ballot questions is prescribed by state law and can be a bit confusing. Even though the ballot language may be a bit technical, it is important for residents to understand the meaning of the ballot language. The actual ballot language for both the operating and technology/capital projects levy are included below. We have highlighted the ballots with “call outs” to help explain the details of each ballot question.
