Grading and Evaluation
Course Grading
All students must receive a passing grade in all required courses and accrue at least 48 credits (class of 2009 & 2010) or at least 54 credits (class of 2011 & 2012) in order to graduate.
The purpose of grading is to communicate to parents/guardians, students, and the community the extent to which the student has met the objectives of a course. The grading system is based on a 4.0 non-weighted grading system as defined below:
- A = 93-100
- A- = 90-92
- B+ = 87-89
- B = 83-86
- B- = 80-82
- C+ = 77-79
- C = 73-76
- C- = 70-72
- D+ = 67-69
- D = 63-66
- D- = 60-62
- F = 59 & below
- Pass/No Credit: P = 73% and above NC = Below 73%
Incomplete Policy
Incompletes can be given to students who did not complete coursework due to extenuating circumstances beyond their control. Any incomplete not resolved by the beginning of the next school year will be changed to an F.
In order to resolve an incomplete, the student must make arrangements with the teacher to complete the missing work. That work should be completed during the first three weeks directly following the course. If the work is not completed by the three week deadline, the student has three options:
- Option 1: If the work was in English, math, social studies, biology, or 9th grade science, the student may make application to EPHS summer school. Summer school applications are available in the DISCOVER program office or by calling the DISCOVER coordinator at (952)975-8261.
- Option 2: If the student is 16 years or old, and the incomplete was in English, math, social studies, 9th grade science or health, the student may register for independent study through District 287. Independent Study applications are available in the DISCOVER program office or by calling the DISCOVER coordinator at (952)975-8261.
- Option 3: If the student is 16 or older, the student may register for classes at an Area Learning Center (ALC). The student is responsible to make sure that the course they register for offers the same content as the EPHS course. Students should see their school counselor for ALC registration.
Pass/No Credit
The guidelines for the pass/no credit options are:
- The passing grade for all departments will be 73 percent of the accumulated points or grades for the term.
- Students may exercise the option for up to two courses each year with no more than one per term.
- Use caution: Many colleges and universities request courses be taken for a letter grade.
- Students must declare their intent in writing by submitting a Pass/No Credit form (with required signatures) by the deadline. Forms are available in each Student Center.
- The deadline for applying for a Pass/No Credit grade is the first school day following parent/teacher conferences each term
Repeating a Class
A course taken through Eden Prairie High School may be repeated with the consent of a counselor if the student originally received a grade of D+, D, D-, or F. The student will receive credit only once for the repeated course. The higher grade will appear on the transcript and a grade of "NC" replaces the other grade. It is the responsibility of the student to request to have the lower grade removed. Repeating a class will be allowed on a space available basis only. Students must wait until the first day's class to register.
Dropping a Class
- Students may drop a class by the first school day following parent teacher conferences each term.
- Students must submit all required paperwork (including required signatures) by the end of that school day.
- Students are limited to two dropped courses per school year.
- Students in grads 10-12 are expected to carry a minimum of 12 credits per term.
- Drop forms are available in each Student Center.
