National Merit Scholar
Fifty-three Minnesota high school seniors have been chosen as National Merit Scholars including one of our students from Eden Prairie. Richard Liu was awarded this title because of his high test scores, strong academic records, and recommendations. He was chosen from over 15,000 Merit Finalists. As a Merit Scholar, he will receive a $2,500 National Merit Scholarship.

Destination ImagiNation Global Finals
Eden Prairie Schools had an amazing performance at the Destination ImagiNation Global Finals-even winning a 1st and two 2nd place finishes. In addition, two teams also received Renaissance awards for going above and beyond using extraordinary creativity and cleverness in crafting their solution to their problem. Competing with almost 1,000 teams from all over the United States and the world, Eden Prairie Schools took home one first place, two second places, one fifth place, one sixth place, two teams placed 13th, and one team finished in 21st place.

National BPA Champion
Senior Andrew Kelly won first place at the National Leadership Conference of Business Professionals of America (BPA) in the management/marketing/human resources category. In addition, he won 3rd place in interview skills and 5th place in the global marketing team category. Approximately 4000 high school and 800 college students from throughout the United States participated in Business Professionals of America’s National Leadership Conference.

EPHS finishes 2nd in state in Knowledge Bowl.

Congratulations...
to EPHS Future Problems Solvers on an outstanding showing at state competition. The team of Qian Long, Elizabeth Huschke, Clarrissa Hart, and Tanya Shah won the State Championship in their division, and received a bid to Internationals. Also receiving a bid to Internationals is Jennifer Nicklay for winning the State Championship in Scenario Writing.

The team of Prachi Mishra, Emelia Sternberg, Shelby Cater, and Katherine Manbeck won the state championship in the orals competition in the senior division. The team of Amanda Ling, Julia Wang, Spencer Lasley, and Kate Norton won 5th place in the written competition, and were state champions in the orals competition in their division.

Destination ImagiNation Regionals-
Eight of 11 Eden Prairie Schools teams competing in the Destination ImagiNation regional tournament placed 1st or 2nd. The teams that won 1st place are now qualified to compete at the state tournament later this month. EPHS students who are moving onto state are:

Lake Conference Visual Art Exhibition Medals-
Tom Strand, a senior, who won an Award of Excellence, Junior Ryan Kitchen won an Award of Merit, and the following students also won medals: Seniors Joe Benike, Marissa Bonnie, Michael Burks, Patsyl Carrillo, Jeremy Pascoe, and Tyler Ramm, along with juniors Sishir Bommakanti and Natalie Knauer.

DECA Students Win in State Competition-
Eighteen Eden Prairie High School students are now qualified to compete in the International DECA Career Development Conference. The students competed at the state competition with over 1400 students from 55 high schools including 59 from Eden Prairie High School.

Students who qualified for the international conference include:
1st Place Winners: Seniors Laura Berryman, Kelsey Bond, Amber Carlson, Austin Gilbertson, Ellen O’Byrne, and Laura Schneider
2nd Place Winners: Seniors Jenna Hari and Martha Mackmiller; and juniors Amanda Erickson, Tim Hanline, Kristy Shillock, and Katie Ulrich
3rd Place Winners: Seniors Erin Brucks, Brittany DeZellar, Chelsey Jonason, Joe Karsh, Lindsey Nicholson, and junior Tori Palmer-Kern Students who won in categories that were not national qualifying events included 2nd Place finishes for Seniors Gerrit Rosenboom and Casi Warman; and Juniors Joey Fiedler and Ali Hallstrom.

BPA State Awards-
10 Eden Prairie High School students qualified to compete at the Business Professionals of America national conference based on their performance at the state level. Twenty students from EPHS competed with over 1,000 students from throughout Minnesota during the state conference held earlier this month.

Students who qualified for the national competition-
1st Place Winners: Seniors Chelsey Jonason (who also placed 3rd in a separate category), Joe Karsh, Andrew Kelly (who had two 1st place finishes), Casi Warman and junior Adam Lueck (who also had a 2nd place finish).
2nd Place Winners: Seniors Anne Harelstad and Jourdan Myers; and sophomores Michael Gillis, and Abdul Jama
3rd Place Winner: Junior Lindsay Naylor

Quiz Bowl Team
State Champions!
EP defeated previously undefeated St. Anthony 570-370. This is Eden Prairie's first Quiz Bowl state championship since 1994. Team members are Trevor Davis, Gautam Kandlikar, Colin O'Donnell, Steven Shonts and Michael Wright. The coach is Kirk Walton.
