National Blue Ribbon School

Eden Prairie High School was named a Blue Ribbon school by the United States Department of Education in February, 1996. This award recognizes excellence in teaching, curriculum, student academic achievement and parental involvement.
Eden Prairie High School is one of approximately 200 public and private schools recognized nationally. Only one other high school in Minnesota received this honor in the 1995-1996 school year.
This award identifies and gives national recognition to public and private schools that have achieved excellence in educating all of their students. The Blue Ribbon Schools program was established in 1982 and honors elementary and secondary schools in alternate years. The intent of the award is to call national attention to highly successful schools which can serve as models for other schools striving for excellence.
Richard Riley, U.S. Secretary of Education, said in a press release:
Tom Fenton, Eden Prairie News, reported to the community that Blue Ribbon winners feature: "challenging academic standards and a rigorous curriculum for all students; a disciplined, supportive, safe and drug-free environment; participatory leadership and a strong partnership among family, school and community; excellent teaching and an environment that strengthens teacher skills and improvement; and low dropout rates and documented student achievement."
Blue Ribbon winners attended an award ceremony in Washington, D.C. in May. The winners also received a special flag to be flown over the school and a plaque to honor their achievement.
Congratulations to the Eden Prairie High School staff, students and parents!
