Our Community
Eden Prairie is a steadily growing suburb on the southwest side of Minneapolis. Its population has grown from 6,938 in 1970 to nearly 60,000 today. Even during growth, the community has maintained an attractive mixture of residential, commercial, industrial and natural areas. Residents are primarily business and professional people. Approximately 57% of residents over the age of 25 have a bachelor's degree of higher.

Our School
For more than seventy years, students have been graduating from Eden Prairie High School with pride. The first graduating class had nine members; the class of 2006 numbered 807. Currently our four-year high school enrolls approximately 3,300 students. The school was named a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence in 1996 by the United States Department of Education. It was also recognized at that time for its innovative uses of technology- one of only 28 schools nationally selected for this Blue Ribbon distinction.

  1. Tops the state in the number of National Merit Scholar Semi-Finalists.
  2. For the second year in a row, an EPHS student has received a perfect score on the ACT.
  3. Sports Illustrated ranked EPHS as having the top athletic program in the state.
  4. Eden Prairie has been named one of the Best 100 Communities for Music Education.
  5. We've been named a Gold-Rated district by Expansion Management Magazine for being among the top 16% of school districts in the country.

Our Faculty and Staff
Our staff includes over 224 certified teachers. Eighty-five percent of the professional staff have earned credits beyond a B.A.; 69% have a master's degree or above. Many teachers and administrators have received recognition for their accomplishments including awards from Disney, Ashland Oil Company and the Toyota TIME award. In addition, a teacher received the Outstanding Science Teacher award from the University of Minnesota for two consecutive years.

Our Facilities
The present high school opened in 1981 with significant additions in 1990, 1994 and 1997. Eden Prairie High School has many state-of-the-art facilities such as the PrairieDome, EagleVision Studio, the Performing Arts Center that opened in 1999, and the Activity Center that opened in 2000.

Our Classes
The high school uses block scheduling. A school day consists of four periods, each 87 minutes long. The school year includes 171 student days, divided into four terms.

Our Curriculum
The high school has a comprehensive curriculum with more than 227 course offerings including classes taught by interdisciplinary teams. Many Advanced Placement and enriched classes are available to students:

In addition, Calculus III is also offered.

 

Our Grading and Reporting
In the non-weighted grading system,
A= 90-100%
B= 80-89%
C= 70-79%
D= 60-69%
F= below 60%
In the pass-no credit system, P= 73% and above; N/C= below 73%

The grade point average (GPA) is calculated on a 4-point system in which A= 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.4, B= 3, B- =2.7, C+ 2.4, C =2.0, C- =1.7, D+ =1.4, D =1.0, D- = 0.7, and F= 0.

The class rank is derived from the cumulative grade point average from all classes taken in grades 9-12.

Our Graduation Requirements
Graduates through the class of 2010 must have a minimum of 48 credits. Graduates of the class of 2011 must have a minimum of 54 credits.

Required classes include:

  1. 8 credits of English
  2. 8 credits of Social Studies
  3. 6 credits of Science
  4. 6 credits of Math
  5. 2 credits of Physical Education
  6. 2 credits Creative Arts
  7. 1 credit of Computer Technology or Intro to Computer Science
  8. 1 credit of Health
  9. 1 credit Business, Work Experience or Mentor Connection

Most students exceed the minimum and complete a full high school curriculum in all disciplines.

Students must pass the required Minnesota State tests.

95 percent are attending 2- or 4-year colleges

Test Scores

  1. ACT composite: 24.5. Approximately 78 percent of the class took the ACT.
  2. SAT mean verbal, 589; SAT mean math, 621, SAT mean writing 589. Approximately 19 percent of the class took the SAT.
  3. The class includes 23 National Merit Semifinalists, 14 Commended students.
