A grade of B- or better in both Enriched English 9 and Enriched American Studies 9 is highly recommended.
This course is designed for a selection of tenth grade students who are abstract thinkers, creative and inventive, grasp knowledge quickly and easily, work well independently, have a diversity of interests, and are achievement oriented. Selection is based on standardized test scores, grades, teachers' recommendations and student writing. Students will write in a variety of formats and for a variety of audiences; read works of American literature critically; speak informally and formally; write essays for literary analysis, and study for mastery of the grammar and mechanics of English. Summer reading is required prior to the beginning of the course. Students must also take Enriched American History /Geography 10 A&B if accepted.
Instructional Methods: Lecture, discussions, group work, note taking, research, essay writing and reading, interdisciplinary coordination with social studies.
Assessment: Daily work, quizzes, tests, essays, projects, presentations, group activities, final activity.
