English 11 A&B Themes in Fiction

Prerequisite: Satisfactory completion of English 9, 10 or equivalent

This course is designed for students who wish to read and discuss popular fiction but at a slower pace. The variety of literary choices might include Jurassic Park, A River Runs Through It, Night, Dance Hall of the Dead, Never Cry Wolf, and The Things They Carried. Literature from the World Literature anthology will cover Japanese, Indian, Chinese, and African cultures. Students receive a final grade each term.

Instructional Methods: Lecture, discussion, group work, note taking, research, computer work, journaling, and reading. All English 11 students will read a variety of literature, both classical and modern, drawn from a world literature anthology. Students will also complete a research project.

Assessment: Discussion, daily work, quizzes, tests, essays, projects, papers, presentations, group activities, research projects, and a final activity. Major Assessments: Unit exams, research paper, research presentations, college application essay, novel exams.
