Advanced English 11 Contemporary Literature

Prerequisite: Satisfactory completion of English 9, 10 or equivalent (Summer reading is required)
This course is for highly motivated students capable of managing intensive reading assignments. Students will read several contemporary novels in addition to the core reading from the world literature anthology. Modern themes and genres of literature will be explored, including such genres as fiction, science fiction, and nonfiction.
Instructional Methods: Lecture, discussions, group work, note taking, research, computer work, journaling, film study, and extensive amounts of reading. All English 11 students will read a variety of literature, both classical and modern, drawn from a world literature anthology. They will also complete a research paper and a project.
Assessment: Daily work, quizzes, tests, essays, projects, research paper, presentations, group activities, and final activity.
