Senior Year
September - October
- Attend the Senior Postsecondary Planning meeting.
- Invite your parents to the Postsecondary Planning meeting during fall conferences .
- Take the ACT and/or SAT tests.
- Take the ASVAB for military enlistment.
- Contact vocational schools for test requirements.
- Attend the Minnesota National College Fair.
- Schedule a conference with your counselor to discuss postsecondary plans.
- Use counselor walk-in times to ask questions.
- Meet with college representatives when they visit our school.
- Make campus visits by using school vacation days.
- Use materials in the Career Resource Center (CRC). Volunteers are available.
- Apply for admission to schools.
- Search scholarship books in the CRC or scholarship websites.
- Get involved in community service. Go to the SLIC room near the north door for information.
October-December
- Return completed postsecondary application to your counselor's secretary.
- Ask for recommendations two weeks before deadlines. Fill out the recommendation request form found in the Student Centers.
- Take the ACT and/or SAT tests.
- Pick up Financial Aid Forms in CRC (December & January)
- Pay attention to important deadlines (i.e. colleges, ROTC, and scholarships)
January-March
- Receive college acceptance and financial aid information. Be sure to reply promptly to college and vocational correspondence.
- Fill out reciprocity forms: They are available in the CRC
- Continue to search the scholarship files for offerings.
March-April
- Attend the Financial Aid Meeting on January 6th.
- Fill out reciprocity forms. They are available in the CRC.
- Continue to search the scholarship files for offerings.
May - June
- Check the Job Board for summer jobs.
- Take Advance Placement Tests if appropriate for you.
- Request a FINAL TRANSCRIPT to be sent to colleges.

Junior Year
September- December
- Attend the Junior Planning Meeting.
- Attend the National College Fair.
- Have parents attend the Junior Planning Meeting.
- Register and take the PSAT, if appropriate.
- Meet with college representatives in the Career Resource Center throughout the year.
- Visit the Career Resource Center and complete a college and career search.
- Visit schools during MEA and grade days.
- Select several schools that interest you. Write schools for information or visit their website.
- Volunteer to take part in a job shadow opportunity. Information is available in the CRC.
- Take the Myers/Briggs, the Strong Interest Inventory, or the CDM.
January- June
- Attend the Financial Aid Meeting
- Register for the appropriate senior year courses in February.
- Take the ACT or SAT tests. Applications are available in the CRC or register on-line.
- Take the ACT in the spring if you plan to apply for the On-Site Day
- Start the process for the Military Academies/ROTC. See your counselor for information.
- Take the Advanced Placement tests in May, if appropriate.
- Apply to the NCAA Clearinghouse if you are interested in being a Division I or II player.
July-August
- Use the summer to visit schools.
- Talk with college students home for the summer.
- Investigate summer employment or volunteer opportunities.
Sophomore Year
September & October
- Do your best academically. Your transcript is important for post-secondary options.
- Attend the National College Fair.
- Visit the Career Resource Center (CRC) and use the resources at least once month.
- Attend the Activities Rush in September to explore extracurricular options.
November- January
- Complete a career or college search using the Minnesota Career Information System. More information is available in the Career Resource Center (CRC).
- Take a career interest inventory. The Strong Interest Inventory and the Myers- Briggs are available from the secretaries in Student Center South and East. The Career Decision Making System inventories are available in the Career Resource Center (CRC). There are free inventories on the internet.
- Do a career exploration (ex. job shadowing). More information is available in the Career Resource Center (CRC).
- Talk with a college and/or military representatives when they visit our Career Resource Center (CRC).
- Volunteer for community service projects.
- Attend the Sophomore Planning Meeting.
- Attend the financial aid evening in January to set goals for financing your post- secondary education.
February & March
- Register for your junior classes carefully considering options beyond high school and graduation requirements.
- Explore Hennepin Technical College options and post-secondary educational options (PSEO) for your junior year.
April- June
- Keep doing your best academically and get support where needed.
- If needed, register for summer school.
- Do something productive in the summer. Build your resume with summer enrichment programs, employment, volunteer work, etc.
- Visit college and university campuses. It is not too early to explore your options.
Freshman Year
September & October
- Meet with your counselor to discuss "Making High School Count."
- High school is a fresh start. Now is the time to take your academics seriously.
- Take care of yourself by paying attention to eating, sleeping, and exercise.
- Get to know your counselor, teachers, and classmates.
- Get to know your high school requirements.
- Attend the Activities Rush in September.
- Pick a club, group, or extracurricular activity to get connected.
- Explore your surroundings and establish balance with your academics and extracurricular activities.
January- March
- Attend the Financial Aid evening to set goals for financing your postsecondary education.
- Get involved in extracurricular activities; look at your options: intramural sports, clubs, groups, and volunteer opportunities.
- Ask yourself if your first semester went as well as you liked academically, if so, keep doing what you are doing, if not, ask what you need to do differently.
- Utilize ACE, resource rooms, and tutors.
- Stay on top of your school assignments, extra-curricular activities and other responsibilities.
- Register for your sophomore classes carefully considering options beyond high school and graduation requirements.
April & May
- Stay focused on finishing the year strong mentally, physically, socially, and academically.
- Look into summer enrichment programs and opportunities in the Career Resource Room.
- Keep doing your best academically and get support when needed.
- Register for summer school if needed.
June & July
- Finish the school on a positive note.
- Do something productive in the summer: summer enrichment, job opportunities, volunteer, and camps.
- Learn more about yourself by taking a career interest inventory available on the internet.
- Make healthy choices. You are 100% responsible for your decisions.
- Get revitalized for your sophomore year.
